Published in 1914 by James Joyce portrays gender relationships in the
Nineteenth century to be unequal, with women incapacitated and animate in servitude

Eveline refuses to make that choice and in the same cycle of despair of her
Mother before her.

In the story Joyce shows the effects that Stranglehold of The Catholic Church,
and, male dominance have on young Eveline.
He portrays women as powerless in society. In her domestic circumstances, -
