An Analysis: The paper of an Hour
In The Story of an Hour, by Kate Chopin, the author manages to endue several ideas concerning gender and marriage in an incredibly wry approach. The story brilliantly conveys the society of its day and does it very presently as well. The main theme of the story tends to advocate carpe diem meaning to seize the day; the theme simply pushes the idea of spiritedness spiritedness to the panopticest. Although the story begins with a gloomy atmosphere as the protagonist is informed of her maintains supposed death, the darn menacingly pursues an unpredictable turn of events as Mrs. Mallard starts to require aware of the almost limitless opportunities that become available because of her husbands assumed passing.
She did not hear the story as many women have heard the same, with a paralyzed inability to accept its significance (par. 3). This statement immediately shows the impact on Mrs. Mallard as she begins to weep, but what she does not yet discern is that her husband is actually an active constraint on her life and ambitions. At the time of the story, around the late nineteenth century, women vivacious in American society had very strict and delimit roles.
A woman could not merely step come forth into the world and expect to find any sort of cogitation to pay for her survival. A woman was expected to find a husband that could support her, become her husbands child-bearer, and reduce care of all needed housework. Pursuing personal dreams and aspirations was skillful not an option for the women of that time.
