The Aqua Lung

The term aqualung as far as is cognize first appeared in print on page 3 of Jacques-Yves Cousteaus first book, The Silent World in 1953. Aqualung was the arche vitrine name for the first open-circuit free-swimming subsurface breathing sets; the type most familiar at the time was the twin-hose open-circuit aqualung. A twin-hose open-circuit scuba is basically a long name for the first scuba that was used modernly. They often had two cylinders. This is different from the scubas that you see today. They energize a diving regulator which helps reduce pressure and all one cylinder. Engineer Emile Gagnan invented a demand regulator that would flow cooking gas to a cable car. It gave the jet in the car the exact amount it needed to work. Jacques modified that a footling bit and then gathered his best divers to turn out what would now be called the aqualung. Did you know that the aqualung reduced wear off and air consumption, allowing the divers to move more quickly and for a longer time? The aqualung is better because you could be underwater and you could explore much longer. It also reduced the feeling that you would master after swimming for a long time. That is called fatigue. It makes you very sleepy and tired. Water gives you fatigue because of its constant moving.

The word scuba was originally an acronym for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus.
The aqualung was essential in 1943.
