Pride and Prejudice a neighborly satire written by Jane Austen during early 1800s invites numerous comparisons. Austen’s satire is subtle in dealing with characters. underneath this mask is a strong condemnation of people who are irresponsible, untruthful and manipulative of others. The social milieu of Austen’s Regency England was curiously stratified, and class division were rooted in family connections and wealth. In her work, Austen is much circumstantial of the assumptions and prejudices of upper-class England. Though she frequently satirizes snobs, she also pokes diversion at the poor breeding and misbehaviour of those lower on the social scale.
It explores the themes of marriage, love, and appearance vs. reality, social status and class hierarchy. Jane Austen belonged to the gray society when the women did not have much power. Marriage provided women with social security, class and wealth. Marriage was the vehicle what helped women to move up in the society. Marriage was the surest route to gain freedom.
Their gender roles were very considerably defined. Yet, it is ironic that Jane Austen’s characters are rebellious and often go against the norms of the society.

Even though she is very critical of Jane Austen’s time and the values practiced during the era.
