The author of Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Enrenreich, wrote a great book giving readers a heart opening look at how so many of our crack American citizens struggle to score ends meet on a monthly basis. As the book follows the journey of the author and her struggles to make ends meet, she comes off as arrogant, indignant, and very vulner commensurate to her task at hand. She states how she has a Ph.D. in Biology, and is very confident that she will tell hidden economies in the labor force of the low remuneration worker. Her arrogance showed when she thought she would have to lower her standards, by the musical mode she presents herself, educational background, and job experience. She would say that she had a few housework jobs or a divorced homemaker thinking that would care her get the job. Its al some as thought she took interviewers as uneducated and beneath her, saying jobs that she interviewed at could be make by an illiterate. She describes looking for places to live, jobs, working conditions and overall environments of the places she goes.
She alienated, humiliated, and demeaned almost everyone she met, though not in any sort of dialog to their face, notwithstanding her thoughts about them. Before she lap off for her journey Enrenreich set some ground rules for herself. First she would not be able to fall back on any past skills or education; she also had to take the highest paying job that was offered. Enrenreich moldiness live in the least expensive shelter that was most poverty stricken, and she had to survive only on the income given to her from employment. As said before Enrenreich had a very uptight, snobby attitude, as though she was better than people who worked lower waged jobs. So therefrom she set limits to what she would endure during this project.
